Cat Stevens: Tuesday’s Dead

I was reading another blog the other day in which the writer called Cat Stevens a “guilty pleasure.” Not possible! Cat Stevens is the ultimate antidote to sadness and cynicism (Harry Nilsson, too). Every song he sings seems to greet the world with open arms. “Tuesday’s Dead” isn’t my favorite of his songs, but it’s still great.

I was a hold-out on Cat Stevens for many years. One of my first roommates would listen to Cat, and I'd invariably come up with some sort of put down... how silly was I? Not just silly, but dumb!
After I gave in and listened to something further than "Wild World" (another song I found to be great, later), I discovered one of my favorite singer/songwriters ever.

It's easy to write him off as some kind of hippie mystic, but that's a mistake.
Plus, I love that so many of his songs are about searching for fulfillment, and when he actually found fulfillment, he pretty much stopped writing songs. I think that's why I hear so much hope in his music.
